According to the details of the incident provided, the woman, who has been identified as Iram alias Sobia, was clubbed to death by her own father-in-law, mainly because he had never approved of his son’s marriage to her.
Sobia belonged to Shahdara and had married Muhammad Shahbaz of Ameenpura village, of her own will. The couple had contracted court marriage a month ago, as their families did not approve of this nuptial. They both worked together in a factory in Sunder Industrial Estate.
According to the details provided by the police, Shahbaz took his wife to his parents’ house where his father Shehzad did not allow the couple to stay. After being turned out of his home, Shahbaz rented a flat and the newly married couple started living there.
On Monday morning, Shahbaz dropped Sobia at his parents’ house and went to his workplace. When Sobia was there, she asked for her husband’s belongings from his parents, upon which her father-in-law became enraged and started beating her.
Sobia was beaten so badly that she suffered critical injuries to her head and fell unconscious. The neighbors took her to the hospital where the doctors pronounced her dead due to excessive bleeding.
Police later took the body for autopsy and also collected forensic evidence and eyewitness statements. The police also registered a cause against suspect Shehzad on the complaint of Sobia’s mother Rubina.
The police later arrested Shehzad who confessed to his crime.
