Electronic Dance music band Krewella denied Indian visa due to Pakistani heritage
Friday, December 30th, 2016 4:31:23 by fatimaarshadIt seems that tense situation between Indian and Pakistan will continue to effect artists as electronic dance music band, Krewella, was denied visa to enter India due to their ‘Pakistani background’.
The two band members of the group are sisters of Pakistani origin named Jahan Yousaf and Yasmine Yousaf. Apparently, their visa was rejected because they are Pakistani by origin. Both the Yousaf sisters are settled in Illinois, United States.
The duo was supposed to perform at the Sunburn Music Festival which was scheduled to take place in India on December 29.
The singers took to Twitted in order to express their discontent and sadness over the entire affair.
“It is with heavy hearts that we inform you that due to our Pakistani heritage, our visas have been repeatedly denied and we will not be able to enter your country for Sunburn Festival,” the tweet stated.
“Our team tried every avenue possible but now has reached the end. We are so heartbroken since we were looking forward to being reunited with our Desi Krew. We hope the state of affairs between the two countries can be resolved someday soon,” they said in a Twitter message.
This was not the first time that Krewella was set to perform in India as in 2014, the pair had performed in India twice and they have a huge fan following there.
Ever since the Uri attacks, relations between Pakistan and India have been tense, as a result of which both the countries have banned artists of their neighboring countries to perform on their respective soils. So far there is no end in sight for the artists’ ban.
