Woman dies on cold hospital floor in Lahore after hospital fails to provide bed

A 60-year-old woman in Lahore died on the cold floor of the Jinnah Hospital on Monday, after the hospital failed to provide her with a proper bed.

According to the details provided, the woman, identified as Zahra Bibi, was a resident of Kasur and she was suffering from some kind of kidney disease. However, her cause of death became high fever due to the cold conditions she was made to bear and not the kidney disease itself as she was forced to lie and get treatment on the hospital’s cold floor.

Her relatives told that Zahra had kidney and heart problems. “We first took her to Services Hospital, then to PIC, wherefrom she was referred to Jinnah Hospital,” they said.

When she arrived at the Jinnah Hospital with her family, Zahra was told that there was no bed available hence she had to lie on the hospital floor. When the doctors saw her condition, they started her treatment on the hospital floor.

She was injected with IV fluids through a drip, but she died shortly after as her temperature had reached dangerous levels.

According to some sources, there are still several patients who are lying in the floor of the hospital awaiting treatment, as the hospital has run out of beds.

The government has constituted a committee to probe the matter after it gained media attention.

Meanwhile hospital authorities maintain that they are helpless in this situation as the number of patients is more that the beds which are available at the hospital. They said that they have no option but to accommodate multiple patients on each bed. The officials however, denied that Zahra was made to lie on the floor.
