CJP takes suo moto notice of torture on child maid
Wednesday, January 4th, 2017 8:36:13 by fatimaarshadThe Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mian Saqib Nisar has taken suo moto notice of the alleged torture on a child maid who was employed at a judge’s house in Islamabad.
This step was taken after the father of the 10-year-old maid ‘forgave’ her alleged abusers.
A Supreme Court spokesperson told reporters that the registrar at Islamabad High Court has been asked to submit a detailed report within 24 hours on the subject matter.
The case of the tortured child maid hit the news after her pictures with the injury marks made rounds on the social media. Initially the maid had claimed that she suffered these injuries during routine housework but she later recorded a statement with the police claiming that her employers used to regular beat her, starve her and lock her in a store room.
A medical board consisting of a general surgeon, a plastic surgeon, a burn surgeon and a psychiatrist was constituted by the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) after the Office of the District Magistrate Islamabad issued a letter to the hospital administration, asking it to re-examine the wounds on the girl’s body.
The letter had stated that there were wounds on the back side of the victim which “could not be seen in the earlier examination”. The request had been made again so all the evidence could be examined ‘on merit’.
Earlier, a report by the medical examiner at PIMS had concluded that the wounds on the girl’s body were a result of blunt trauma and that the burns had been caused due to ‘accidental matchbox’.
The girl’s alleged torturers were facing jail time if the allegations against them were proven to be true but the girl’s father ‘forgave’ them saying that he had investigated the matter on his own and found the allegations to be baseless.
