US obtains conclusive evidence about Russia’s involvement in hacked emails scandal
Thursday, January 5th, 2017 1:30:26 by fatimaarshadAs president-elect Donald Trump’s days to the Oval Office get closer, the hacked emails saga keeps getting more interesting. The United States (US) intelligence agencies have obtained what they are calling as ‘conclusive evidence’ that Russia was behind the leak of the hacked emails of the Democrat candidate Hillary Clinton, which eventually led to her defeat in the 2016 Presidential elections.
According to the latest reports, Russia provided the hacked emails from the Democratic National Committee to WikiLeaks through a third party. The US intelligence agency officials have reported that they recently got this confirmation and that there was no doubt in this evidence.
Earlier, it had been concluded that Russian intelligence agencies had directed the hacking, but till now there was no conclusive evidence to support this claim.
Meanwhile Russia itself has denied allegations that it had anything to do with the leaks. Trump himself has questioned the conclusion drawn by US intelligence agencies’ claims that Russia leaked the emails to hurt Clinton and make his accession to the office easier.
According to the latest update, the US intelligence report on the hacking is scheduled to be presented to Obama on Thursday and to Trump on Friday. While Obama has taken steps to reprimand Russia for its action by ousting 35 Russian spies from the US and sanctioning two Russian spy agencies, four intelligence officers and three companies, it is not clear what Trump will do once he takes over as President.
