Sindh Governor Justice Saeed-uz-Zaman passes away at 79
Thursday, January 12th, 2017 2:08:32 by fatimaarshadThe recently appointed Governor of Sindh, Saeed-uz-Zaman passed away on Wednesday at the age of 79. According to reports, he was suffering from a prolonged illness and ultimately he passed away.
According to a Governor House spokesperson, the funeral prayers of the deceased justice will take place on Jan 13, after Friday prayers at Polo Ground in Karachi and he will be buried at Gizri graveyard.
Justice (Retd) Saeed-uz-Zaman was admitted to a private hospital just days after taking oath. At that time, it was reported that he was suffering from a chest infection and that he had breathing problems, however, it was reported that none of his ailments were serious and that he would return to work as soon as he is feeling better. Some reports also suggest that Zaman had been suffering from a serious ailment for a long time now.
Till the appointment of a new governor, Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani will take on the charge of the acting Governor Sindh.
Justice (Retd) Saeed-uz-Zaman Siddiqui was appointed as the 31st Governor of Sindh after it was decided to replace the previous governor, Dr. Ishratul Ebad Khan during a meeting between President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Zaman had served as the Chief Justice of Pakistan from July 1999 till December 2005. He was considered an honest and upright man and he even declined to take oath under the Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO) during former dictator Parvez Musharaf’s regime.
The Prime Minister said the services of Justice (R) Saeed uz Zaman Siddiqui in the field of judiciary and upholding rule of law would be remembered, a statement issued from the PM’s Office said.
“Justice (R) Saeed uz Zaman was an upright and honest Judge who never compromised on his principles and remained impartial in delivery of justice”, he added.
