Indian soldier kills four senior officers over leave row
Friday, January 13th, 2017 6:52:22 by fatimaarshadAn Indian soldier from India’s elite security unit shot dead four of his senior officers on Thursday over a heated argument. The soldier belonged to Central Industrial Security Force, and apparently he had been arguing with his seniors over leaves. The soldier was stationed in Aurangabad district in eastern India’s Bihar state.
The name of the officer has not been revealed but details show that he was in the barracks with his seniors when the argument erupted. When he was denied leaves, he became enraged and opened indiscriminate fire on his fellow officers.
“Three died on the spot while one injured officer succumbed to his injuries at a hospital,” Satya Prakash, Aurangabad police chief, told AFP.
“He shot 32 rounds before he was overpowered by his colleagues and is suspected to be suffering from some mental illness.”
After firing the rounds, the suspect tried to flee but he was soon caught and handed over to the relevant authorities.
All the victims were unarmed and they were off-duty when the incident took place. The team was guarding a thermal power plant.
The CISF is tasked with guarding the country’s most vital civil and government installations which include airports, atomic plants and government buildings.
This is not the first time that such an incident has taken place as in 2014, an Indian soldier stationed in Indian Occupied Kashmir killed five of his colleagues when a superior denied him leaves.
India’s security forces have a high incidence of suicides and killings due to the pressures associated with the job, long hours, poor working conditions and inadequate time-off.
