Indian films set to return to Pakistani cinemas
Wednesday, February 1st, 2017 12:44:28 by fatimaarshadGood news for all Indian movie lovers! The government has allowed the screening of Indian movies in cinemas, after months of ban which was imposed following the rising tensions between India and Pakistan after the Uri attacks.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif gave the g0-ahead to the information, broadcasting and heritage ministry to lift the ban and continue the screening of Indian movies in Pakistan.
According to an official handout issued by the information ministry, the government is “pleased to continue the existing open policy to display all international movies (including Indian films) in Pakistani cinemas”.
However, it is not going to be that simple, as the government will still require the importers to fulfill some basic criteria. The foreign film importers will now be obliged to send a request to Information Ministry before they import a film. They will have to give details of the film’s name, its cast and provide a CD of the film. The request will then be sent forward to commerce ministry for NOC.
Another important requirement for the importer would be to get approval from the censor board.
An official privy to the information also revealed that the PM took the decision after being briefed by Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb. The information minister is also the head of the special committee formed by the PM for the clearance of Indian movies to be screened in Pakistan. She presented a details report and suggestions on the issue, which helped the premier in making this decision.
In light of this news, it is expected that Kaabil will be released on February 3, while Raees will be released on February 10, in cinemas across Pakistan.
