Angelina Jolie is not only known as a great actress, she is also recognized as an active social worker and a human rights advocate. Therefore, it came as no surprise that she spoke up against President Donald Trump’s recent travel ban, which bars citizens of seven Muslim countries from entering the United States.

On Thursday, Jolie wrote a piece which could published in a New York Times opinion piece, in which she said that this recently placed travel ban hurts vulnerable refugees and could fuel further extremism.

Without directly naming the president, Jolie said in her piece that discriminating on the name of religion was like ‘playing with fire’. The actress, who is a mother of six children said that “all born in foreign lands are proud American citizens.” Out of Jolie’s six children, three are adopted and her own children are born in other countries.

“I also want to know that refugee children who qualify for asylum will always have a chance to plead their case to a compassionate America. And that we can manage our security without writing off citizens of entire countries – even babies – as unsafe to visit our country by virtue of geography or religion,” she wrote.

According to Trump’s executive order, citizens of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen are banned from entering the United States for 90 days. Refugee admissions were suspended for 120 days while Syrian refugees were barred indefinitely.

This move has drawn widespread criticism from people from all walks of life and celebrities have been using their spotlight to condemn the president’s executive order.
