Islamabad judge, wife, held responsible for maid’s torture

On Thursday, police submitted the challan of Tayyaba torture case which declared Additional District and Sessions Judge Raja Khurram Ali Khan and his wife, Maheen Zafar, responsible for the torture on the child maid.

The case made headlines last month as Tayyaba’s picture showing brutal torture marks on her body, surfaced on the internet. It was later found out that Tayyaba was employed as a child maid at the judge’s house and she used to be brutally beaten by her employers.

When Tayyaba was initially taken to the judge, she denied being mistreated by her employers. However, she later revealed all the details of she would be beaten by the judge’s wife. The neighbors would also hear Tayyaba’s cries and they would later console her with food and comfort words.

Initially, Tayyaba’s father ‘forgave’ the judge and his wife. However, the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mian Saqub Nisar, took suo moto notice of the incident and ordered an inquiry into the case.

On Thursday, police submitted challan of the case in an Islamabad trial court of Judicial Magistrate Haider Shah. The challan held Maheen Zafar responsible for torturing Tayyaba and her husband for not deliberately getting the child treated.

Investigating officials in the case have made the FIR, supplementary report of additional clauses included in the FIR, Tayyaba’s medical report, DNA report, statements by witnesses and their own investigation report part of the challan before the court.

Judge Raja Khurram Ali Khan, co-accused in the case along with his wife, continues to serve as an officer on special duty (OSD), after being barred judicial duties.
