Justin Trudeau attends funeral prayers of slain Quebec mosque shooting victims
Friday, February 3rd, 2017 1:34:24 by fatimaarshadAs a shaken Muslim minority comes to terms with the terrible hate crime which left six Muslims dead at a mosque in Quebec, the Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, stands side-by-side with them to show support.
Trudeau joined fellow Canadians on Thursday to offer funeral prayers of three of the six men who were killed during Sunday’s shootout at a Quebec mosque.
On Thursday, nearly 5,000 mourners belonging from different religious backgrounds, packed into a hockey arena in Montreal’s Olympic park for the funeral prayers. The rest of Canada watched the prayers on national television.
Khaled Belkacemi, 60, and Abedlkrim Hassane, 41, both Algerian dual nationals, and Tunisian-born Aboubaker Thabti, 44, were shot dead, along with three other worshippers at a Quebec City mosque on Sunday. Funeral prayers of the other three victims will be held on Friday in Quebec City.
Canada saw people from different religions come together for their Muslim brothers. During the funeral prayers, Catholics, Jews, Muslims and agnostics sat next to each other and listened to the verses of the Holy Quran.
“The whole nation has been shaken by this brutal and hateful attack, but in these dark moments our country has united and showed solidarity,” said Trudeau.
“(Say) no to violence, no to intimidation, racism and xenophobia,” said Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard.
The Quebec mosque shooting suspect, Alexandre Bissonnette, was charged on Monday by a Canadian court and he will now be punished according to his crimes.
