Tayyaba torture case: Father forgives judge for the second time
Friday, February 10th, 2017 4:48:58 by fatimaarshadThe father of a child maid who was allegedly tortured by her employers-an additional district sessions judge (ADSJ) and his wife-has again forgiven the culprits during a court hearing on Friday.
The alleged torturers, ADSJ Raja Khurram Ali Khan and his wife Maheen Khan, were facing an inquiry for their alleged involvement in keeping Tayyaba in wrongful confinement, burning her hand over a missing broom, beating her with a ladle, detaining her in a storeroom and threatening her with dire consequences.
Earlier in January, Tayyaba’s father, Mohammad Azam, said that he forgave the judge and his wife as the case was ‘baseless’. At that time Azam said that he had investigated the matter on his own and found out that Khurram and his wife were not the culprits and that a petition has been filed against the real criminals with the police.
However, when Azam appeared before the Supreme Court later, he retracted his statement and said that he was pressured to forgive the suspects.
Therefore, it came as a surprise when Azam again ‘forgave’ the torturers of his child. In an affidavit submitted in court, Tayyaba’s father stated that he would have “no objections” if the court decides to grant bail to the judge and his wife.
“You had backtracked from your earlier statement as well,” ADSJ Raja Asif who was hearing the case today told Azam, and assured him that there was no need to be scared.
“Are you giving this statement of your own accord? Is there any pressure on you?” the judge asked, adding, “The court will protect you.”
Mohammad Azam, however, repeated his stance, saying “I forgive Raja Khurram and his wife.”
After hearing Azam’s account, Judge Raja Asif granted bail to Raja Khurram and his wife against surety bonds of Rs. 30,000 each.
