Will Lahore lose its chance of hosting PSL final?
Wednesday, February 15th, 2017 1:35:33 by fatimaarshadThe final of the Pakistan Super League matches was to be held in Lahore. However, after the blast which took place on Mall Road, Lahore, and in light of the match-fixing scandal, that might change.
PSL Chairman Najam Sethi said that a new draft will be presented to respective franchises and their players on Feb 22, regarding a decision on whether the leagues’ final will be held in Lahore or not.
Appearing on the show ‘Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Saath’, Sethi said that the board is also in contact with the International Cricket Council on the spot-fixing scandal. He said that in light of the latest revelations, test cricketer Nasir Jamshed was also suspended from the team.
Talking about how the entire investigations into the match-fixing charges were carried out, Sethi said that Pakistan Cricket Board’s Anti-Corruption Unit pursued the investigations against Sharjeel Khan and Nasir Jamshed in a very responsible manner. He said that the unit has former officers of intelligence agencies and that they are very good at what they do. He said that the PSL made a move against Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif, only after they had gathered enough evidence against them.
The PSL chairman also informed that Sharjeel had admitted his role in the fixing scandal and he is apologizing for it. The cricketer will be handed over the charge sheet in two days.
Sethi said that the PSL authorities also have the mobiles of both the players and had received other valuable information in connection with the case as well.
“If we had not stopped it now, these issues would have been coming up regularly,” he said. “The franchise is concerned of the developments but they are with us on the same page to eradicate corruption from the league. Sangakara and Dean Jones have appreciated our actions.”
