Minister for IT snatches journalist’s phone inside SC, threatens him
Thursday, February 23rd, 2017 3:23:12 by fatimaarshadThe State Minister for Information Technology Anusha Rehman allegedly snatched mobile phone from a journalist and later threatened him with dire consequences when he was caught secretly filming her.
According to the details of the incident provided, Rehman was at the Supreme Court with Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique on Wednesday when she saw that a journalist was secretly filming her.
‘Why did you film me’? she first questionned the journalist identified as Azam Gill. She then grabbed Gill from his jacket and grabbed his phone. Rehman did not stop at that but also allegedly threatened the journalist with dire consequences.
“I am calling the FIA; I am the IT minister and will have you imprisoned for 14 years under the cybercrime law,” Gill quoted her as telling him.
She asked the newsman to immediately delete her footage from his phone.
The entire fiasco took place outside Court Room No. 2, where the Panama case hearing was underway. After the incident, all the journalists boycotted press talk by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader and sat outside the Supreme Court.
Later, Railway Minister Saad Rafique and Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb tried to pacify protesting journalists, but their efforts went in vain.
The protesting journalists demanded that Rehman herself should apologize to Gill for her rude behavior and only then will they end their protest. However, the minister denied having snatched Gill’s phone and even denied an apology.
“I didn’t snatch anyone’s mobile phone. The man inside the court was secretly filming, which is unethical,” she said, while speaking to media afterwards.
“He also apologised me for this,” Anusha Rehman claimed, adding that no one can be allowed to secretly make videos of others.
