Women trafficking business thrives in Twin Cities: CJP takes notice
Friday, February 24th, 2017 4:02:33 by fatimaarshadThe Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mian Saqib Nisar, has taken notice of a case of a woman who was trafficked to Afghanistan through a gang, and he has demanded immediate action.
On Friday, the CJP sought a report on the case of a woman who was trafficked to Afghanistan after being kidnapped. He has asked for the case details from the inspector general of police in Islamabad and the Punjab government within three days.
The case of a gang supplying abducted women to Afghanistan came to light when a local newspaper published the story of an abducted woman from Rawalpindi area. The article titled ‘Women trafficking in twin cities goes unchecked’, appeared in The News, and has caught the media’s attention.
The article talks about the case of a 40-year-old woman, who is a mother of three children and wife of a laborer who got kidnapped from Rawalpindi and was sold to different people, eventually reaching Afghanistan. Her kidnappers called the woman’s husband one day and asked for a sum of Rs. 300,000 for her return.
Even though an FIR was registered by the woman’s husband, the police are very slow in taking the case forward and have been using delaying tactics.
The story published in the news talks about an organized gang which traps the women of lower income families by acting as matchmakers. They get the women married off in fake nikkah ceremonies and later sell them to different people in Afghanistan. So far a large number of women have been traded this way across the border but no one has done anything about it.
It is being hoped that with the CJP taking notice of this incident, this gang will be busted and abducted women will safely return to their families.
