PIA pilot, two crew members issued show-cause notice for loading extra passengers
Monday, February 27th, 2017 4:43:01 by fatimaarshadInvestigation into a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight which travelled to Medina from Karachi with seven extra passengers on-board, has been com completed. The pilot of the plane and two other officials have been issued show-cause notices for loading extra passengers on the flight which went to Medina on January 20, in a violation of air safety regulations.
The decision was announced on Monday when PIA spokesman Danyal Gilani said that: “Disciplinary action has been taken against all concerned officials.”
The pilot on the said flight, Capt. Anwar Adil, senior purser Hina Turab and terminal manager Akbar Ali Shah were issued notices for allegedly letting extra passengers travel on jump seat and the cockpit on flight PK-743.
The development came after an inquiry committee set up by the airline found the allegations to be true.
“After in-depth investigation… it has been confirmed that passenger[s] travelled on [the] flight are over and above of the aircraft configuration (including jump seats) which is a clear violation of SOP [standard operating procedures] and violation of passenger safety,” read a report signed by Manager Operations Sohail Jaffar Ali.
As per SOPs in cases like these, the report said, the aircraft should be parked again to offload extra passengers “which was not done in this case”.
“Such type of violation/irregularity cannot be ignored in which safety of the passenger[s] is on [sic] stake.”
After the issuance of the notice, Capt. Adil will not be able to fly to any place. The Civil Aviation Authority is also investigating allegations of safety violation against the captain.
After the decision was announced, Capt. Adil denied having allowed any extra passengers to board the plane and he demanded a transparent inquiry against the real culprit.
