Two Pakistani teens accused of planning Uri attack, cleared by Indian authorities
Monday, February 27th, 2017 1:26:32 by fatimaarshadAfter months of investigating two Pakistani teenagers accused of carrying out the Uri attack, the Indian authorities have finally decided that they had no part in it, and cleared them of any wrongdoing.
According to the Indian media, the two teens, identified as Ahsan Khursheed and Faisal, will be sent back to Pakistan as a goodwill gesture. On Sunday, Indian media stated that the two boys’ involvement could not be proved, therefore, they will be sent back to their home country.
A closure report for Ahsan and Faisal has been filed in the trial court by National Investigation Agency of India. The Indian Army has also been informed of the same and they will now correct their records accordingly.
Ahsan and Faisal were arrested three days after the Uri attack in September 2016, when they accidentally crossed the border into Indian territory. The boys belonged to a village in Azad Kashmir which is located at an hour’s walk from the Line of Control (LOC).
Initially, the Indian media had reported that the two boys had confessed to facilitating the Uri attack. Details of their involvement were never shared.
After Faisal’s arrest, his brother Ghullam Mustafa Tabassum, who is a doctor, told the reporters that his brother was at home when the Uri attack took place. “I don’t want any controversy or recrimination which is why I had not contacted the media,” Tabassum had said. “I am his older brother and am supposed to protect him. I do not know what to do. I can only hope someone powerful in India reads our story and sends these boys home.”
The boys’ school principal also vouched for their good character and said he highly doubted that these boys could be part of something so dangerous.
