A new movie which is due to be released soon, hurts the religious sentiments of Muslims in India and a group of Muslim leaders in Bhopal have proposed to boycott the movie.

‘Lipstick Under my Burkha’ is a movie which is produced by Prakash Jha, and it revolves around four women; a burkha-clad college student, a young beautician, a mother of three and a 55-year-old widow who rediscovers her sexuality.

The film apparently hurts the religious sentiments of Muslims and All India Muslim Tehwar Committee plans on seeking legal action against the film.

According to committee chairman Ausaf Shahmeeri Khurram, nobody has the right to comment on an issue like the burkha. “If somebody peeps into the burkha worn by our sisters and daughters, we won’t remain silent. Burkha is an Islamic tradition, and nobody has the right to talk about it in a negative way,” he said.

The committee is urging India’s 24 crore Muslim population to, therefore, boycott the film. “We also plan to take legal action against the film-makers. We are talking to lawyers and collecting documents related to the movie,” Ausaf added. He also thanked the Central Board of Film Certification in India for stalling the film’s release. “They have done the right thing. They should not allow public viewing of this film at any cost,” he said.

The film was refused to be granted a certificate from the Censor Board last month for containing “sexual scenes, abusive words, and audio pornography and (is) a bit sensitive about one particular section of society.”
