Imran Khan in trouble over derogatory remarks about foreign PSL players

It appears that Imran Khan has scored his own goal after a leaked video surfaced which shows him using derogatory remarks about foreign players who participated in Pakistan Super League (PSL) and termed them ‘Phateechar’.

The video started circulating on social media on Monday, and since then the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chief has received a widespread backlash from the public for his choice of words and racist comments.

The video appears to be from an internal party meeting in which Khan is seen criticizing the quality of the foreign players who had come to play the final PSL match in Lahore between Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators.

“I don’t even know the name of any of these so-called foreign players. It seems they just picked up players from wherever. Picked some from Africa and called them foreign players,” said Khan.

In addition to these comments, Khan is also using vile and racist language for these foreign players, including Darren Sammy, who helped make this match a huge success.

After the video surfaced, Twitter erupted with reaction to Khan’s words and the tweets showed that the general public was hugely disappointed in him for showing such disrespect for these players.

The PTI chief was against the decision of the PSL final being held in Lahore from the beginning. Just a short while after the Punjab government announced that the final would be held in Lahore on March 5, Khan opposed the decision and called it ‘madness’.

“God forbid, if any blast takes place in Lahore, there will be no cricket in Pakistan in the next 10 years,” he told a private news channel.

“This is madness considering the situation here” he said, referring to the series of bomb blasts which rocked Pakistan. “What’s the point of holding the PSL final in Lahore? It isn’t even an international match.”

The PTI leader added, “In my view, it is a terrible idea. We want to hold this match by calling in army and blocking roads and there will be high security. This will not send a good message.”

Despite such opposition, the match went on smoothly and the public really enjoyed it.
