Wednesday, March 8th, 2017 3:51:20 by fatimaarshadMuhammad Ahmed, who had been rendered mute and paralyzed because of torture he received from his teachers at Larkana Cadet College, underwent his first successful surgery in the United States on Tuesday.
Ahmed’s case was reported by local media in November and since then, the entire nation has been following his progress, praying for his full recovery.
According to Ahmed’s father, Ghullam Ahmed, doctors operated on Ahmed’s respiratory tract and fixed from where it had been broken. Doctors have asked him to visit again after three weeks so that they can monitor his progress and plan on their next steps.
Ahmed had been strangulated by his teachers due to which sensitive bones in his neck broke. He lost his speech function and suffered paralytic attack which left his limbs motionless. Due to the breakage of his neck bones, Ahmed got not even chew and swallow his food and was kept on a liquid diet.
Ahmed’s father, a teacher, had said that a few teachers from his school were responsible for bringing his son to this state. “On August 6 just after school reopened after summer vacations I received a phone call from station master GM Bhatti saying that my son had suffered fits.”
He claimed that when he reached the school his son was covered with injuries on his face, chest, head, back and lower limbs.
Ghullam took his son to Karachi from Larkana after the doctors failed to provide satisfactory treatment there. In Karachi, Ahmed was taken to the Jinnah Post Graduate Medical College (JPMC) for medical examination where doctors declared that Ahmed’s condition was due to the severe torture he had received. They advised for him to be sent abroad for further treatment.
Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah took notice of the incident and approved the treatment of the torture victim. He asked the health department to make necessary travel arrangements for Ahmed and his father so that he can get treatment from US.
Ahmed reached the US on Feb 16, and had been under treatment at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, Ohio.
