Hamza Ali Abbasi tries to defend Imran Khan over ‘phateechar’ comment
Thursday, March 9th, 2017 1:09:15 by fatimaarshadPakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman, Imran Khan landed himself in trouble for making derogatory and racist remarks against the foreign players who participated in the final match of Pakistan Super League (PSL). He called the players ‘phateechar’ (useless) and said that it seemed the management had just picked up some random players from Africa, as if it was an insult to come from that country.
Since the video showing the PTI chief making these comments went viral, a number of people, including Khan’s own supporters, are disgusted over these comments and want an explanation for such a racist behavior. Even though Khan tried to come clean by saying he was just using ‘cricketing terms’ of back when he was a cricketer, no one is really buying this argument.
Hamza Ali Abbasi, recently came to Khan’s defense by posting a 10-minute video on his official Facebook page, in which he defends the PTI chairman. Abbasi starts out by saying that he is defending Khan as a neutral Pakistani citizen as he does not own any official position in the party. However, Abbasi has been seen with Khan in almost all of his rallies on top of his container, discrediting his claim that he has no stakes in the party.
Furthermore, Abbasi argued in the video that the Pakistani public is just making a mountain out of a molehill. “Have all other issues ended?” he asked.
Abbasi argued that Khan was speaking casually in a private setting with journalists, forgetting the fact that any meeting with journalists is not private unless it is a one on one off the record encounter.
“Have you never used a slang word in a private setting with friends or family?” Abbasi questioned the public trying to prove Khan’s innocence.
Despite this attempt by Abbasi, the public is still furious over Khan’s comments as he defied the Pakistani culture of hospitality by insulting the foreign players.
