NIA gives clean chit to two Pakistani teenagers accused of assisting in Uri attacks
Thursday, March 9th, 2017 1:25:08 by fatimaarshadIndia’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) cleared two Pakistani teenagers accused of their alleged involvement in Uri attack, after nearly six months of investigations.
The decision was released by the NIA on Wednesday after it had been clearly established that the two boys had no role in the attack, whatsoever.
The two teenagers, identified as Faisal Hussain Awan and Ahsan Khursheed had been detained by the Indian authorities three days after the Uri attack, when the boys had wandered off towards the Indian border. Both the boys have now been cleared of all charges and were handed over to the Indian Army’s 16 Corps to send them back to Pakistan, according to a press release by the NIA.
The NIA further said in the statement that it found no linkages between the two Pakistani teens and the militants who were killed in the Uri attack. Apparently, the two boys had unknowingly crossed the border after having a fight with their parents over studies.
Moreover, the evidence collected from them including their statements, technical analysis of their mobile phones and GPS devices, recovered from the possession of slain militants, did not establish their linkage to the attack which left 19 soldiers dead in September, 2016.
Both Awan and Khursheed lived in a village in Azad Kashmir which is located an hour’s walk away from the Line of Control. They were arrested on September 21, 2016, and since then, had been under investigation.
After their arrest, Awan and Khursheed’s families had pleaded with the authorities about the innocence of these boys and even their school’s principal vouched for their good behavior. However, India continued with its tradition of putting all the blame on Pakistan without any solid proof, and in this spate, two innocent boys got trapped.
Both Awan and Khursheed will be brought to Srinagar, from where they will be handed over to Barmula police, who will hand them over to Pakistani authorities.
