Religious scholar helps save Veena Malik’s marriage
Friday, March 17th, 2017 4:30:19 by fatimaarshadJust days after actress Veena Malik filed for divorce from her husband of three years, Asad Khattak, a cleric stepped in to help save their marriage. The religious scholar, Mufti Naeem has given three months to Veena and Asad to reconsider their divorce plan, and during this time, they will live under some agreed-upon conditions.
Just after three years of marriage, Veena had reportedly filed for divorce from Asad earlier this year. The divorce was filed in Dubai while Asad was away on a trip to the United States. When he found out that his wife had filed for divorce, he was shocked and said he did not want this to happen.
According to details, after meeting Veena and Asad at his seminary in Karachi, Naeem reached the conclusion that Asad was at fault for the differences in their marriage.
“Asad Khattak has confessed his crime of torturing Veena, spending her bank balance and even selling property,” Mufti Naeem told reporters. “The court decree about the divorce is non-maintainable. Veena filed the case in a family court, Lahore and the decision came in her favour without hearing Asad, who was abroad. Hence, as per Islamic teaching, it is not divorce, but a one-sided decision.”
“Since her husband has realised his mistakes, we attempted for their reconciliation because the children will ultimately suffer,” he said. “We have decided… Asad will pay Veena Rs0.3 million every month such that she can look after the children.”
The couple, the religious scholar said, will live separately for at least three months till Veena comes up with new conditions. “If her husband agrees to those conditions, the matter will again be referred to court,” he added.
So far Veena herself has not spoken publically about the divorce but it appears that she will go ahead with the Mufti’s suggestions and try to make the marriage work for the sake of her two children.
