Wednesday, March 22nd, 2017 1:04:54 by fatimaarshadIn a bid to impress a British backpacker, an Australian teen jumped into crocodile-infested waters, narrowly escaping death. Luck was on his side when Lee De Paauw was able to save himself from the jaws of a crocodile which was swimming in the water at the time Paauw jumped.
According to the details provided of the incident, A British backpacker by the name of Sophie Paterson was visiting Johnstone River at Innisfail in Queensland State when she met Paauw. Paauw was instantly smitten and he wanted to win the backpacker over through some miracle.
On Sunday morning, Paauw, who was drunk at the time of the incident, jumped into the river, which is known to be inhabited by crocodiles. As soon as Paauw jumped, a crocodile latched onto his arms and closed his jaws around it.
Paauw instantly started punching the crocodile in the head, due to which he released his jaws and swam away. Luckily, Paauw was able to escape with only two broken bones and stitches on his arms.
Later, Paauw told reporters that he had done the dangerous feat in order to impress the ‘beautiful backpacker’. “She’s really good looking and (had) been kind to me the night before,” he said.
Even though the teenager risked his life, Paterson was not impressed and said that the teenager had failed to win her over.
“I would have to be quite twisted to be impressed by that,” she said.
“I think risking your life — there is nothing funny about that. In all honesty it was a really horrific experience.”
