Chicago police arrest 14-year-old for raping girl, broadcasting feed on Facebook

A horrific incident took place in Chicago when a 15-year-old girl was gang-raped and the entire act was broadcasted live on Facebook.

According to the latest developments, police arrested a 14-year-old boy in connection with the rape case and have charged him with several offenses.

“CPD arrested 1st of several juvenile offenders in Facebook sexual assault incident,” police department spokesman Anthony Gugliemi wrote on Twitter late Saturday.

It was also reported that the teenage boy faces at least three juvenile felony charges and will be tried in a juvenile court.

The victim of the gang-rape incident was a 15-year-old girl who went missing from her neighborhood on March 19. Her concerned parents came to the police to report her missing but she was found two days later and taken to a children’s hospital for treatment.

Further details of how and where she was found were not shared till the filing of this report.

The police got leads of the case when the girl’s mother approached the police with graphic photos taken from a Facebook Live video showing several young men assaulting the teen.

At one point, there were 40 viewers who watched the video, but no one reported the incident to the police.

In the recent past, episodes of violent content being streamed live on Facebook have increased. Two fatal shootings and the kidnapping and torture of a disabled 18-year-old are a few such incidents which have been broadcasted live.
