Fixit founder briefly detained by Karachi police
Monday, April 3rd, 2017 10:56:11 by fatimaarshadFixit, a movement which started in Karachi aiming at fixing the city’s administrative problems, gained popularity within a short span. Therefore when the founder of Fixit, Alamgir Khan was arrested by the police, an uproar was created and he was released after a short detention.
On Sunday, police arrested Khan from outside Karachi Press Club, when he had gathered there along with his supporters. Khan was heading towards Chief Minister House to protest against the alleged misconduct of the police, but he was apprehended from the press club, before he could reach his target destination.
After arresting him, the police shifted Khan to Artillery Ground police station and a case was registered against him. However, shortly after that, his supporters and members of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) reached the police station and demanded Khan’s release. After Khan’s release, PTI’s Arif Alvi and his supporters ended the protest outside the CM house.
According to the details provided, Khan and his supporters were on their way to the CM House but the police stopped them from going there and ended up using tear gas shelling and water canon to disperse protestors.
“We tried to tell them [the protesters] that Section 144 has been imposed in the city and offered them to march towards DIG South office or Commissioner Office instead,” said a police officer while speaking to the media at the site.
“We warned them not to march towards the CM House but the protesters tried to take the law into their own hands and were becoming difficult to control,” the officer added.
Khan’s campaign is aimed at covering unsealed manholes in the metropolis and shot to fame by spray-painting the images of former CM Sindh Qaim Ali Shah on open manholes and along the piles of garbage to draw attention to underlying administrative issues of the city.
