Historical school in Karachi razed by land mafia
Monday, April 10th, 2017 9:31:10 by fatimaarshadAn 80-year-old school building has been demolished by land mafia so that they can make something else on the site and mint money. The building was located in a locality known as Garden East and the school was still running, providing education to more than 1000 students.
According to the details provided, the demolition was illegal and the land mafia razed it down on Saturday night so that no one tries and stops it. According to the locals in the area, the land mafia reached the site late on Saturday night and bulldozed the entire school building.
An officer of the education department reached the site all the way from Korangi to report the case but according to him, no one in the Jamshed Town police station took action against the illegal demolition.
The school building was built in 1928 by a woman named Jufel Hurst and the school was named after her. The school was opened for classes in 1931 and since then it had been providing education to children from different age groups.
Initially the school was privately owned but later it was handed over to the government. During the morning shift, girls attended classes there while the second-shift was reserved for boys. Children from different age groups studied there as it had both primary and secondary classes.
According to experts, the school had been declared a historical site and should have been protected. However, since there is no evidence into that claim, past papers are being checked to find out whether the school was a cultural heritage.
