The family of slain sufi qawwal, Amjad Sabri, has decided to leave Pakistan because they fear for their lives. Sabri, who was killed last year by unidentified gunmen, leaves behind three daughters, two sons and a wife.

While talking to reporters, Sabri’s brother, Azmat Sabri, said that they intended to leave Pakistan and shift to London in order to protect their lives. “Although, we have spent all our lives in Karachi, we’re now scared. Our lives are at stake in Liaquatabad since Amjad’s murder,” he said.

Azmat further added that him and his family felt that they were constantly being watched and that their lives were disturbed because of that. “We feel insecure and it has become difficult living under these circumstances,” he said.

Azmat said that it was also his responsibility to look after his slain brother’s children and think about their future, which is not secure in Pakistan.

“We will leave as soon as we get our visas,” said Azmat.

Azmat said that he will seek help from former chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhry for the provision of visas and will also request the government to bear their travel expenses. On Sunday, the former CJP visited Sabri’s house in Liaquatabad and met his family.

Sabri was killed in a targeting killing attack on June 22, 2016. He had just left his house and was heading to a television studio when armed motorcyclists pulled up beside his car and fired a volley of bullets at him, killing him on the spot.
