Yadav’s death sentence sparks harsh reaction from India
Wednesday, April 12th, 2017 5:29:14 by fatimaarshadKulbushan Yadav, an Indian spy who was found working against the interest of Pakistan in Balochistan, was caught last year and has been recently handed the death sentence.
However, the decision has not gone down well with India.
Immediately after the death sentence was awarded, the Indian authorities called the Pakistani ambassador and told him in no uncertain terms that if the sentence is not reverted, Pakistan will have to face grave consequences.
Yadav was tried through the Field General Court Martial (FGCM) under the Pakistan Army Act (PAA), and the conviction was reached after a proper trial.
Addressing Yadav as “a son of India”, Swaraj warned the Pakistani government “to consider the consequences for our bilateral relationship if they proceed on this matter,” Hindustan Times quoted the Indian external affairs minister as saying before the Parliament.
“Charges against Yadav are concocted,” she added. “There is no evidence of wrong-doing by him.”
Meanwhile, Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh also added that Yadav has a valid Indian visa, which negates the claim of him being categorized as a spy. He said, “We [the Indian government] will do everything possible to get justice” for Kulbushan Yadav, The Times of India reported.
Yadav was caught from Balochistan in March 2016 and was immediately taken for interrogation. Identified as Kulbushan Sudhir Yadav, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) agent had been working under the false name of Hussein Mubarak Patel.
He has been charged with espionage and sabotage activities in Pakistan.
