United Airlines offers compensation to all passengers on flight from which man was dragged off
Friday, April 14th, 2017 1:22:54 by fatimaarshadEver since the video clips of a man being brutally dragged-off United Airlines flight were released on the internet, the US carrier has been under fire for the way it treated the passenger.
In an attempt to quell the uproar that has been created over the incident and to fix its tarnished reputations, United Airliens has announced that it would no longer ask police to remove passengers from its over-booked flights and would compensate customers who were on the flight from which the man was removed.
The CEO of United Airlines’ parent company, Oscar Munoz appeared on a TV show on Wednesday and apologized for the mishap. However, he said that he would not resign from his position, even though there has been increasing pressure on him to do so.
“I was hired to make United better and we’ve been doing that and that’s what I’ll continue to do,” Munoz said.
Munoz publically apologized to the man who was dragged off the flight-a 69-year-old doctor from Kentucky named David Dao. He also said that Dao’s family and other passengers who witnessed him being taken off the flight will be compensated.
“That is not who our family at United is,” he said. “This will never happen again on a United flight. That’s my promise.” In the future, law enforcement will not be involved in removing a “booked, paid, seated passenger,” Munoz said. “We can’t do that.”
United announced that passengers on that particular flight will be compensated equal to the cost of their tickets. United spokeswoman Megan McCarthy said Wednesday that the passengers can take the compensation in cash, travel credits or miles.
