Mashal Khan’s friend coerced to lie he had committed blasphemy
Monday, April 17th, 2017 5:33:29 by fatimaarshadAs the investigations into the slain Abdul Wali Khan University student deepen, it is becoming apparent that there was a whole conspiracy behind the gruesome murder and little truth to the fact that Mashal Khan had committed blasphemy.
A friend of Mashal Khan recently came forward to the authorities and revealed that after his friend’s gruesome murder, he was being pressured to lie that Khan had committed blasphemy.
The informant, a journalism student by the name of Abdullah said that despite receiving so much pressure and threats, he refused to make up this lie about his slain friend.
In a statement recorded with a judicial magistrate, Abdullah said the him and Khan had been accused of committing blasphemy by other students from the journalism department.
A friend of Mashal Khan who was also accused of committing blasphemy claimed on Monday he was pressurised by university students to say Khan had committed blasphemy, but he refused to do so.
In a statement recorded before a judicial magistrate, Abdullah, a fellow journalism student at Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, said Mashal and he were accused of committing blasphemy by other students from the journalism department.
“Mashal Khan was a talented and brilliant student having a kind heart. On 13.4.2017, at around 11:00am, one of my friends, namely Muhammad Abbas, called me on my cellular phone and told me to come to the journalism department. Said Abbas was a conspirator,” the statement read.
“Upon his call, I proceeded to the journalism department and saw Mudassir Bashir (the class representative), the actual perpetrator, along with other students who there and then, charged me and Mashal Khan with blasphemy and all of them alleged that we have deviated from the right path along with Zubair.
Abdullah said that he quickly recited the shahadah to prove his innocence, after which the students had forced him to say that Khan had committed blasphemy. When he refused, the charged crowd moved to find Khan and in the meantime, members of the administration asked Abdullah to hide so that he could be saved from the mob attack.
Abdullah later found out that Khan had been shot in the head and chest and that his body was dragged to the road and desecrated.
An FIR of the gruesome attack was registered at the police station against 20 suspects.
