Tuesday, April 25th, 2017 11:46:49 by fatimaarshadThe inquiry committee which was formed to probe the Dawn leaks issue has given its recommendations and in its report, it has advised to remove Prime Minister’s aide on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi and Rao Tehseen from their posts.
The committee has submitted its recommendations to the PM and his office for review.
The English-language daily, Dawn Newspaper had published a story on October 6 in which the journalist, Cyril Almeida had written down a piece about an alleged civil-military rift during the National Security Committee (NSC) meeting over the issue of tackling jihadists outfits. In the report, it was stated that there were factions in the government which supported these jihadists for their own interest.
The story drew huge criticism from all the corners of the society and it prompted the military to state that it was fed to the reporter and that an investigation should be conducted into the matter.
The whole issue initially resulted in Almeida taking the brunt as his name was placed on the Exit Control List for less than a week. However, after hue and cry was created over putting the entire brunt on the reporter, the government took his name off of the ECL within a week.
Upon receiving immense pressure, the government formed an inquiry committee which comprised one member each from the ISI, MI and IB, Secretary Eastablishment Tahir Shahbaz, Ombudsman Punjab Najam Saeed and an FIA director.
The committee was headed by Justice (retd) Aamer Raza Khan and it has now recommended the removal of Tariq Fatemi and Rao Tehseen. So far their roles in the leakage of the information are not known but they will come to light once the detailed inquiry report is presented in the next 24 to 48 hours.
