According to the details, the suspected terrorists were hiding inside a residential building in Karachi’s Urdu Bazar area late on Monday night.
Information regarding their hiding place was given to the Rangers’ by a terrorist belonging from the same group who had earlier been arrested by the authorities. Since the building was located in a densely populated area, the neighboring houses and shops had all been evacuated before the offensive was launched.
The miscreants attacked the Rangers’ personnel with hand grenades and opened fire on them as soon as they arrived at the site. The authorities retaliated with gunfire and the exchange continued for nearly seven hours. During this time, the miscreants launched several hand grenades on the paramilitary authorities.
The deadly exchange left five terrorists dead while four members of the paramilitary forces were injured. The deceased also included a woman and a five-year-old child who were present in the house with the terrorists.
After the battle, the Rangers’ personnel searched the area and recovered a huge cache of explosives, weapons and hand grenades from the apartment.
After the episode, the entire residential building and nearby streets were sealed off as the security personnel and police have been searching for any other miscreants who might be present in the area.
The deceased terrorists could not be immediately identified but it is being suspected that they belong to the banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi outfit.
