Man who shot Mashal Khan identified, not yet arrested
Thursday, April 27th, 2017 12:49:17 by fatimaarshadThe case of the brutal lynching and murder of Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKU) student Mashal Khan is still underway as the authorities try to uncover all the suspects responsible for the gruesome act.
According to the latest police reports, the suspect who shot Mashal Khan to death has been identified but he has not been arrested yet. These latest revelations came in a report presented by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
According to the report, the cartridges collected from the site have been sent to Peshawar, where further investigations will take place. The identity of the shooter has not been revealed to the public but the police will undertake all efforts to arrest the culprit.
So far 36 people have been arrested, of which nine were employees of the same university.
The latest hearing regarding the Mashal Khan case were held by a three-member bench under the Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Thursday. The report prepared by the KP police was presented during the hearing.
The CJP adjourned the case for the next 15 days, and during this time the authorities will conduct further investigations.
Just a few days ago, AWKU superintendent, students and some other employees of the university were sent to prison on judicial remand. All the accused were presented in front of a judicial magistrate, where they denied all the charged levied against them. However, the court still sent them to prison on judicial remand till May 4.
Mashal Khan was lynched and shot to death and his body was desecrated by an angry mob who had accused him of committing blasphemy.
