FIA arrests two Omanis for buying kidneys from illegal transplant clinic in Lahore
Tuesday, May 2nd, 2017 11:31:01 by fatimaarshadOn Monday, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested two foreigners who had bought kidneys from an illegal clinic in Lahore which was raided a few days back. The arrests were made so a clear message could be sent out that our country is not a hub for illegal organ transplant.
The FIA Assistant Director Jameel Ahmed Khan talked to reporters on the occasion and explained why the decision to arrest the international customers was made and how the entire process was carried out. He also told reporters that the foreigners belonged to Oman and their arrest has brought the total count of all the arrests related to this case to six.
Just last week, officials from the FIA had raided a clinic which was being illegally run for organ transplant in a private housing society of Lahore. The clinic had been running there for years but no one had suspected that the facility was illegal.
During the raid, four people including Dr. Fawad and Dr. Altamash were arrested and sent on physical remand.
The head of this illegal business has been identified as Dr. Saqib, who is still at large.
The FIA director also explained that the accused belonged to a big group which not only runs these illegal organ transplant centers in Punjab, but also in other provinces including Azad Kashmir. This is a huge network which needs to be tackled on the national level. Strict action needs to be taken against the accused so that others are discouraged from engaging in this dangerous business.
