Two locals, one foreigner killed during illegal organ transplant in Lahore
Monday, May 15th, 2017 1:30:49 by fatimaarshadAs the investigations by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) continue into the illegal organ transplant case, it has been learnt that two locals and one foreigner, have been killed during these operations.
According to details provided, a Jordanian woman lost her life at the hands of the doctors who operated on her to give her an illegally acquired kidney in Lahore.
“During investigation, it transpired that Jordanian-national Salma died during illegal kidney transplantation carried out by Dr Fawad Mumtaz and Dr Altamash Kharal. Her fake death certificate was prepared by Dr Kharal from a private hospital at Thokar Niaz Beg and the body was kept in another private hospital in Defence before sending it back to Jordan,” FIA Lahore Deputy Director Jamil Ahmed Khan Mayo told Dawn on Sunday.
To a question about booking these doctors for murder, the official said: “We are considering registering a separate first information report against the arrested doctors for allegedly killing two locals and a foreigner.”
Earlier last month, the FIA started conducting raids against doctors and their accomplices who are involved in the business of illegal organ transplant. Raids were conducted in Lahore, in which an illegally run clinic was shut down and some doctors were arrested.
The suspects who have been arrested so far include Dr. Fawad, Dr. Altamash, Dr. Mumtaz, Dr. Kharal and paramedical staffers Umer Draz and Muhammad Shahzad. Meanwhile another suspect by the name of Dr. Zafar Javed, has also been identified but he has escaped to his native district Sanghar, after his colleagues were arrested.
The FIA plans on busting this entire net which is operating in other cities as well.
