Hussain Nawaz ‘harassed’ by two JIT members, claims minister
Wednesday, May 31st, 2017 10:57:43 by fatimaarshadAfter the Supreme Court turned down Hussain Nawaz’s request to replace two Joint Investigation Team (JIT) members, the hearing took place yesterday and the Prime Minister’s son was grilled for five hours.
Earlier Hussain’s counsel had submitted an application to the SC to replace two JIT members- Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan’s Bilal Rasool and State Bank of Pakistan’s Amer Aziz-claiming that they had agendas against the PM’s family.
After the first hearing in the Panama Papers case, members of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) accused both, Rasool and Aziz, of harassing Hussain during the probe.
During a press conference held at the Press Information Department, Minister of State for Information, Marriyum Aurangzeb and Daniyal Aziz raised objections over the attitude of both Rasool and Aziz.
Aurangzeb alleged that both these members were biased towards the Sharif family, which tainted the interrogation session. She also added that her party had already expressed concerns over the inclusion of both these members.
Aurangzeb also accused the two members of misbehaving with the PM’s cousin, Tariq Shafi, and said that they had told Shafi not to appear before the JIT for the way he was treated.
Aurangzeb further went on to say that both Rasool and Aziz should publicily declare that their association or friendship with the PM’s opponents should not affect their performance as JIT members.
The minister also raised objection over the relaxed attitude of the judiciary towards Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan, as even his sources of income are also being investigated.
