K-Electric blames power outages on humidity
Wednesday, May 31st, 2017 1:13:05 by fatimaarshadThese days, the sole electricity providing company to Karachi, K-Electric (KE), is under a lot of fire for depriving the citizens of electricity for hours due to its unscheduled load shedding. On Tuesday, KE claimed that the reason for its back to back power breakdown in the city is due to tripping of electric lines because of heavy humidity.
A spokesperson for KE said that this time around, the humidity in the air is more than normal, which is causing the power lines to trip again and again, leading to unscheduled outages.
Earlier, several politicians, including the Sindh Chief Minister, had leveled allegations against the company, saying that it was not investing in infrastructure, which in turn was leading to shortfall of electricity in the metropolis.
Refuting these claims, the KE spokesperson said; “We are installing new lines to control the situation arising because of humidity. There have been investments made by the K-Electric. The profits of K-Electric were not paid a dividend in the stock market. All were invested within the system and its audit reports are available. Such humidity does not come every year – we are managing the situation.”
The spokesperson further added that not every part of the city was going through load shedding and that KE had also not shut down any plant, as was being claimed.
Meanwhile, the Sindh High Court (SHC) ordered the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) to take action against KE with regard to unannounced load shedding.
