Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah warned of the dire consequences if load shedding is not reduced in the province. Talking to reporters during the inauguration of a pediatric ward at the Sindh Government Hospital, Shah said that due to the miserable conditions that people are living in because of power outages, they might become violent and take to the streets, resulting in a catastrophe.

The CM said that people in rural and urban areas are forced to suffer in this sizzling heat and the power outages which last for more than 20 hours, just makes their condition worse.

“The Hyderabad Electric Sup¬ply Company (Hesco) and the Suk¬kur Electricity Supply Com¬pany (Sepco) have failed to serve people of rural Sindh while the performance of K-Electric in the city has also turned out to be poor. It has failed to upgrade its system and did little to include more electricity in its system and that is why people are facing serious hardships on account of tripping of its system and loadshedding.”

Shah also recalled his meeting which he had with KE management prior to the month of Ramzan and said that they had assured him that there would be no loadshedding during Iftar and Sehri time. However, the company failed to live up to its promise and now the people are suffering because of it.

Talking about Hesco and Sepco’s performances, the CM said that both the companies had failed miserably and the federal government was doing nothing to resolve the situation. “About three year ago, the Sindh government had offered to take over both the companies [Hesco, Sepco] for their smooth, efficient and effective performance but the federal government refused. Today they are in a shambles and they could not be made efficient even if the Sindh government is allowed to take over,” he said.

The people of Karachi are still facing hours-long power outages and are forced to keep their fasts in sweltering heat.
