British police reveal identities of two London attackers
Tuesday, June 6th, 2017 2:02:55 by fatimaarshadThe London police revealed the identities of two out three London attackers on Monday. They have been identified as Khuram Butt and Rachid Redouane-Butt was known to security personnel before but Redouane had no prior record.
It has been revealed that Butt was a 27-year-old British citizen who was born in Pakistan, while Redouane was 30 and ‘claimed to be Moroccan and Libyan’. These details were provided by national counter-terrorism police chief Mark Rowley who has not yet revealed the identity of the third attacker.
The deadly attack took place around the London bridge area on Saturday night. Three assailants first rammed a car onto pedestrians and later got out of the car and started attacking people with knives. As a result of the rampage, seven people were killed while more than 40 were injured. The three attackers were also killed by the police.
Police sources have confirmed that Butt has no connection with any radical groups in Pakistan and that he was radicalized through Youtube videos of extremists. Even though Butt was known to the M15 and the police, they did not expect him to carry out an attack; hence no action was ever taken against him.
The Met said: “Khuram Shazad Butt was known to the police and MI5. However, there was no intelligence to suggest that this attack was being planned and the investigation had been prioritised accordingly. The other named man, Rachid Redouane, was not known. Work is ongoing to understand more about them, their connections and whether they were assisted or supported by anyone else. We cannot say more about them at this stage. ”
The authorities are still trying to piece together information related to the attacks and have urged the public to provide any information they might have about the attackers.
