Girl forced boyfriend to kill himself so she could gain attention
Thursday, June 8th, 2017 3:09:12 by fatimaarshadA girl belonging from Massachusetts forced her boyfriend to take his own life so that she could become the ‘grieving girlfriend’ and gain public attention.
Michelle Carter, 20, was dating Conrad Roy whom she had been dating for a few months. According to the prosecutors, Carter sent text messages to Roy, asking him to kill himself and the texts were later found by the investigators.
Bristol Assistant District Attorney Maryclare Flynn said that Carter did all of this so that she could seek attention from her friends as a grieving girlfriend.
It was reported that Roy killed himself on July 12, 2014, and the correspondence between Carter and himself showed that he was forced to do so by his girlfriend. He planned to take his life by inhaling carbon monoxide in his car. At the beginning, he got scared and climbed off the car. However, Carter pressured him to go back, eventually resulting in his death.
Once he was gone, Carter told her friends that she was the reason behind Roy’s death and mourned it.
“She begins to get the attention she craved for,” Flynn said in Taunton District Court. “So she has to make it happen — she has to make him kill himself so that she’s not seen as a liar. She has to be the grieving girlfriend to get the sympathy and attention she craves.”
Meanwhile Carter’s defense argues that Roy took his own life and that Carter did not kill him. They said that the teenager had considered taking his life multiple times in the past as well but was never able to take the step.
Carter has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and she has also been denied the right to a jury trial. Only the judge will decide her fate in the case.
