JIT summons Hassan Nawaz for second time
Thursday, June 8th, 2017 11:21:33 by fatimaarshadThe Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing the Panamagate case against the ruling Sharif family, summoned the younger Nawaz for the second time yesterday. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s younger son, Hassan Nawaz, was called before the JIT for questioning related to the case.
Hassan appeared before the JIT on Thursday morning to record his statement and he was accompanied by prime minister’s special secretary Asif Kirmani.
Since the Panamagate hearing cannot take place at the Supreme Court, it is being held at the JIT secretariat. Special arrangements are made at the Secretariat which is housed at the Federal Judicial Academy in the capital city of Islamabad.
It has been learnt that Hassan was grilled for two hours before the team and. He had earlier appeared before the JIT on June 2 and was questioned by the team for around seven hours. After the session ended, Hassan did not talk to any of the reporters and left straight in his car.
Hassan is a London-based businessman who is being questioned alongside his elder brother, Hussain Nawaz for matters related to the Sharif family’s source of income and money trail for several properties abroad. The JIT was formed in response to the Supreme Court’s April 20 judgment in the Panama Papers case.
The team has been given a time period of two months to present its final reports and during this time, it can summon whoever it wishes to in order to complete the probe.
On Wednesday, the Supreme Court special bench overseeing the JIT’s work had expressed satisfaction with the progress of the probe after the JIT had submitted its mid-term report.
