Murdered Chinese nationals engaged in preaching activity claims report
Tuesday, June 13th, 2017 2:22:46 by fatimaarshadThe issue of two Chinese nationals, a man and a woman, who were abducted from Quetta and later murdered made headlines a few days ago. Just yesterday, the Interior Minister, Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan also took notice of the incident and instructed security agencies to get to the bottom of this case.
According to the latest reports, the Chinese couple had obtained a business visa for Pakistan but they were engaged in ‘preaching activities’ in Balochistan.
Lee Zing Yang, 24 and Meng Li Si, 26, were kidnapped form Quetta’s Jinnah Town on May 24. A few days later, the Islamic State (IS) claimed that they had killed the abductees. However, this claim could not be verified as the group did not provide any evidence.
During a meeting held at the Interior Ministry to review issuance of visas to the Chinese and registration of international nongovernmental organisations (INGOs), Nisar was told the couple was part of a group of Chinese citizens who obtained business visa from the Pakistani Embassy in Beijing.
Instead of conducting business however, the couple engaged in preaching activities by pretending to learn Urdu language from a Korean national Juan Won Seo. It is being speculated that their preaching incited the IS group and prompted them to abduct the couple and later kill them.
Nisar expressed deep concern over this unfortunate incident and called for a review of the visa issuance process to Chinese nationals who come to Pakistan for various projects. He also urged concerned personnel to maintain a databank of the Chinese nationals present in various parts of the country.
“This databank, to be prepared by NADRA [National Database Registration Authority], should be shared with all security agencies,” Nisar told the participants who included secretary interior, advocate general, DG IMPASS, NADRA deputy chairman and other senior officers.
