Finsbury mosque attack leaves one dead, eight injured
Monday, June 19th, 2017 12:52:34 by fatimaarshadLondon came under attack once again on Sunday night as a van ploughed through pedestrians and worshippers who were coming out of the Finsbury Park Mosque after the night prayers. The attack took place during the Holy month of Ramadan, when Muslims stay in the mosque till late to pray.
Due to the attack, one person died on the spot while eight other worshippers were injured. The injured were immediately rushed to the hospital where they are being treated.
According to the details provided, a white man has been detained by the Metropolitan Police for carrying out the attack. The suspect was injured and has been admitted to the hospital for medical treatment, following which he will be taken into custody.
There was a lot of chaos and confusion created following the attack and witnesses described the scene to reporters. A witness by the name of Cynthia Vanzella lived on the same street where the mosque is located and she talked to reporters describing what had happened.
Vanzella said that she was preparing to go to sleep when she heard loud noises coming from outside; “I ran towards my window and people were shouting nervously,” she explained, adding that the scene was chaotic, with the wounded asking for help and others trying to figure out what had happened.
Shortly after, the police arrived and surrounded the area. . “The traffic was bad at the time. Right after the [police] car stopped, a lot of people started pushing this man [the alleged suspect] to the police, as if signalling to arrest him,” she stated.
So far nothing else is being revealed about suspect but everything will be revealed in due course.
