Seven people injured in Karachi due to celebratory firing over Pakistan win
Monday, June 19th, 2017 1:13:57 by fatimaarshadYesterday Pakistan beat India to win the ICC trophy, sending the country into a frenzy over the victory. Shortly after Pakistan won, people from all across the country, came out in jubilation and celebrated the great win.
However, in that frenzy a lot of people resorted to aerial firing, which proved to be fatal for a number of people. In Karachi alone, seven people got injured due to the aerial firing, but thankfully, none of them died. The injured also included a woman and a child.
“We received seven people with bullet wounds at several government hospitals in Karachi,” said Police Surgeon Dr Aijaz Khokhar. The police surgeon added that all of the injured were out of danger.
A DSGN engineer named Shariq Ishtiaq, working for a local news channel, sustained bullet wounds while he was outside the residence of Pakistani skipper Sarfraz Ahmed in the Buffer Zone area. The engineer was initially taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and later later referred to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).
JPMC Executive Director Dr Seemin Jamali told reporters that Shariq sustained wounds on his head but his condition was stable.
Dr. Jamali added that a five-year-old boy named Husain Raza was also brought to the hospital from Model Colony with bullet wound on his abdomen. His condition was serious but thankfully the doctors were able to treat him on time.
Two other persons, identified as Faraz, 22, from Lines Area and Sardar Sultan, 30, from Orangi Town were also brought with bullet wounds for treatment at JPMC.
Police are now conducting raids to apprehend the culprits behind these attacks.
