Bomb attack foiled at Brussels railway station
Wednesday, June 21st, 2017 12:56:03 by fatimaarshadA suspected lone wolf tried to carry out a deadly bomb attack at a Brussels railway station on Tuesday. Thankfully, he could not carry out his plans completely, due to which innocent lives were saved.
The Belgian counter-terrorism police are now investigating the motives of the suicide bomber who tried to detonate deadly bombs at the station. The troops guarding the railway station shot the bomber after he set off explosives which failed to injure anyone.
“We consider this a terrorist attack,” prosecutor Eric Van Der Sypt told reporters, declining to comment on witness accounts that the man had shouted religious slogans before detonating what witnesses said were one or two devices in luggage.
A larger bomb with nails in it, failed to go off.
No one was hurt in the attack but huge plumes of smoke could be seen pouring through Central Station and the scene terrorized commuters who ran for cover as soon as the small explosives set-off. Just a year before, Daesh attacks took place in the city and people still cannot shake-off that terror.
It has been learnt that the investigators have identified the man but they are not releasing his identity yet for security reasons. It is also believed that the suicide bomber was acting alone and did not have any accomplices.
Immediately after the attack, police halted rail traffic, evacuated the site and cleared the streets which were crowded with tourists and residents. After carrying out a thorough search, these places were declared safe again.
Europe has been under a threat from Daesh ever since the war in Syria started. Multiple attacks have taken place in France, Germany, Belgium, England and other countries.
