There are two sides of story in this case as the members of the Din News team claim that the Madressah Haqqania management was involved in the theft of electricity and when the team started recording the theft, the students started beating them.
The medrassah management claims on the other hand, that the journalists were drinking water during the day and that they initially stopped them but when the team did not listen, the students beat them up.
According to a reporter of Din News Ali Usman, him and five other team members of his were assigned to interview Hussain Nawaz’s lawyer, Salman Akram Raja on Tuesday. “Mr Raja could not come from Lahore so we went to the lawyer’s house, which is near the madressah,” he said.
Usman further added that one of the cameramen, Rashid Azeem, went into the medressah to pour water over his head to cool off. When the students approached and asked him why he was drinking water, he told them that he was just pouring it over his head.
“We saw that the madressah management was stealing electricity and one of the cameramen started recording,” he said, adding that some students then started beating Azeem, breaking two of his teeth and taking his camera.
When the team continued to record the incident, the students started throwing stones at the DSNG and stole cash and valuables from the team.
An FIR has been registered against the madressah management with the Margalla police.
