Quetta suicide blast claims 12 lives
Friday, June 23rd, 2017 1:21:12 by fatimaarshadA suicide blast in Quetta resulted in the death of 12 people, of which five were policemen. Scores of people were injured due to the blast which took place on Gulistan Road early on Friday.
According to the details provided, the suicide bomber was travelling in a 1986 Toyota Corolla and he tried to break a security perimeter in order to target police offices which are located in the area. However, when security personnel tried to stop him, he rammed his car into curb and blew himself up.
More than 16 people were injured as a result of the attack and their bodies were shifted to Civil Hospital in Quetta. A total of nine injured are said to be police officers.
DIG Quetta Abdul Razzaq Cheema confirmed that the blast was a result of a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device which exploded after security officers tried to stop the ‘suspicious’ driver. He also confirmed that as a result of the blast, at least one policeman lost his life, however, his identity was not revealed.
Cheema added that investigating authorities are examining CCTV footage to determine further details about the tragic incident.
After the blast, the area was cordoned-off and all the injured were rushed to the hospital while the dead bodies were collected and taken to the morgue. After that, the authorities sealed the area completely and started collecting evidence along with pieces of the suicide bomber’s body.
Balochistan Home Secretary confirmed that the suicide bomber actually wanted to target the office of the inspector general of police, but when he was stopped, he blew himself up.
