Disturbing video emerges of transgender women getting harassed in Murree
Monday, July 3rd, 2017 1:19:23 by fatimaarshadPakistan is not really a safe place for transgender persons and a recent incident in Murree proves just that. A video has emerged on social media which shows just how badly we treat transgender women and consider them public property which can be pillaged.
The video shows two transgender women being verbally and physically abused on Murree’s famous Mall Road, during the Eid holidays. The two-minute video is being widely circulated on social media and it shows to which level our society can stoop down to.
In the video clip, two transwomen, whose identity is still not known, can be seen getting verbally and physically abused by a group of men who are surrounding them. The men can be seen jeering, calling out names, laughing and touching the transwomen at inappropriate places.
Both the transwomen look terrified and they try their best to escape the unruly crowd but the men follow them. One of the transwomen can be seen trying to get away from the crowd but one of the boys pulls at her arm, embraces her and continues to touch her inappropriately.
According to an eye witness, the harassment continued for a while before a few people came to their rescue and took them to the police control room. However, there wasn’t any policeman present at the time so a complaint was not registered.
When contacted, City Police Officer Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi told the local reporters that the police were “completely unaware” of this incident.
“On the second day of Eid we all were busy in controlling traffic and the crowd in Murree,” he claimed. “If any one of the victims of the sexual assault comes to us and registers a complaint against the people who sexually harassed them, we will definitely take up the issue and try to take action against them.”
