According to the details provided, the raid had been carried out on the orders of Assistant Commissioner Captain Retired Shoaib Ali in the wee hours of the morning. Officials reported that a large number of men and women were dancing at the party and some of them were also smoking cigarettes and sheesha. It is not clear whether other drugs were also being used at the party.
The party goers were also playing very loud music on loudspeakers, disturbing the residents of the area. It is also not apparent whether the neighbors reported on them or someone else had informed the police about it.
According to the reports, police rounded up at least 34 men and 16 women from the hotel and booked them for ‘obscene acts and songs’, and for violating the amplifier and the tobacco control laws.
The suspects were kept in custody during the night but they were later released on bail by a magistrate. The hotel where the party was taking place was also closed down for the night and its owner and manager have been booked for abetment. It has been reported that the hotel is built on a spot which was reserved for the Supreme Court Bar Association.
